Villagers Block Fish Laden Lorries from Udyavar

News Courtesy: The Canara Times, Jan 4th, 2010

PADUBIDRI: Villagers of Padubidri who were fed up with the inaction of the district administration despite their repeated plea to take action against the fish laden lorries proceeding towards the fish oil units in the locality, obstructed movement of the fish laden lorries on Sunday.

The agitators alleged that the local elected representatives had totally neglected their problems even as the fish processing units operating at Udyavar Pitrodi, namely Hindustan and Yashaswi were playing with the lives of locals.

The complaint of the locals is that the frequent transportation of rotten fish towards the fish processing and fish oil units in lorries which sprinkle the stinking and the greasy water onto the roads in turn making them slippery and also resulting in accidents.

Even residents of the nearby areas have been greatly inconvenienced due to the foul smell emanating from the units which let the waste water into the nearby lakes.

The road block was resorted to after the speeding fish laden lorries sprayed the stinking water on two bike riders and some autorickhsaw drivers.

The situation however cooled down due to the timely intervention of the police.

The locals have warned of a hunger strike in front of the Udyavar gram panchayat if no step was taken to solve this problem. Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the local gram panchayat has convened a meting on January 10 to discuss the issue.

Udyavarites Cricket Team - Jai Ho

Cricket is most famous sports not only in India but around the entire globe.  In India, though the National Game is Hockey, all other games stand only next to Cricket.

People who come to this part of the world (Gulf Countries) for their daily bread have always kept their spirit of sportmanship perhaps to come out of the routine stressful life and hectic work schedules.   The numerous sports events being organized by various organizations here in U.A.E. have provided ample opportunities for sports enthusiasts.  Indians, due to their dedication, discipline and tremendous zeal, have secured special place in the national team of U.A.E. as well.

Udyavarites association is becoming stronger day by day adding more and more youths back from our native place.   As a result, few enthusiastic youths have formed a new cricket team recently bearing the name of Üdyavarites.  The team has been prepared keeping in mind the need of balanced combination of Batting, Bowling and Fielding.

Udyavarites team is comprising of 15 dynamic members.  They are : Clarence D'souza (Captain), Dominic Almeida, Pradeep Soans, Ryan Suares, Nikhil, Anil D'souza, Rohan Suares, Joy Mascarenhas, Deepak Quadros, Arvind Shettigar, Roy Mascarenhas, Arun Shettigar, Steevan Lewis, Deril Pinto and Ashwin Periera.

It may be recalled that 7 years ago the then Cricket Team of Udyavarites lead by Antony D'Silva had won championship in the Cricket Tournament organized by Saint Mary's Konkan Community of Dubai (SMKC Dubai).

We at Udyavarites blogspot say "Udyavaries Cricket Team - Jai Ho".
