PADUBIDRI: Villagers of Padubidri who were fed up with the inaction of the district administration despite their repeated plea to take action against the fish laden lorries proceeding towards the fish oil units in the locality, obstructed movement of the fish laden lorries on Sunday.

The agitators alleged that the local elected representatives had totally neglected their problems even as the fish processing units operating at Udyavar Pitrodi, namely Hindustan and Yashaswi were playing with the lives of locals.

The complaint of the locals is that the frequent transportation of rotten fish towards the fish processing and fish oil units in lorries which sprinkle the stinking and the greasy water onto the roads in turn making them slippery and also resulting in accidents.

Even residents of the nearby areas have been greatly inconvenienced due to the foul smell emanating from the units which let the waste water into the nearby lakes.

The road block was resorted to after the speeding fish laden lorries sprayed the stinking water on two bike riders and some autorickhsaw drivers.

The situation however cooled down due to the timely intervention of the police.

The locals have warned of a hunger strike in front of the Udyavar gram panchayat if no step was taken to solve this problem. Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the local gram panchayat has convened a meting on January 10 to discuss the issue.
