The Jackfruit Humour

Patient : Doctor Doctor… You only said “Eating fruits along with peel is good for health”
.
Doctor : O yeah, Yes I did, that’s the proven fact
.
Patient : Look, I have a stomach-ache now!
.
Doctor : So what’s the fruit you ate?
.
That’s how the humour associated with jackfruit goes……..
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Jackfruit has a distinction being “the only ‘largest tree borne fruit’ in the world”.
.
Ripe jackfruit comes in two types as Kaapo & Rosaall (ಕಾಪೊ ಆನಿ ರೊಸಾಳ್ in Konkani and ಭರಕೆ or ತುಲ್ಲೆ in Tulu) smells very sweet. The fruit is used as favourite delicacy in numerous ways:
.
- Unriped fruit as a spicy vegetable dish.
- Papads (ಹಪೊಳ್)
- Chips (Fried in oil just like banana chips)
- Ghariyo (ಗಾರಿಯೊ) - A sweet dish fried in coconut oil
- Pickled fruit in salty water (ಮಿಟಾಕ್ ಘಾಲ್ಲೆ ಘರೆ)
- Ponnsa Pathollyo (ಪೊಣ್ಸಾಚ್ಯೊ ಪಾತೊಳ್ಯೊ) or ಗಟ್ಟಿ (in Tulu) - sweet and solid rice cake wrapped in Teak leaves
- The Jackfruit seeds (ಭಿಕ್ಣಾಂ) are used in variety of vegetable dishes.
.
Apart from the above usage, the wood of this tree is used for making furniture, doors and musical instruments.  The picture above is taken inside Udyavar Church Compound during this Mansoon.
